Ohhh I am so excited to finally share the news. My blog (link in bio) has the scoop, which in classic me style will truly give you the full story. But, the teaser? This photo of the Mobile Art Studio on the open road taken/sent by a kind stranger last year as Wes, Reesa, and I rambled through southern Utah. One of my first tiny (5”x7”) paintings, “Snow Day Drive”. Note the wispy cloud threading across the base of Pioneer Peak, and the fresh snow with tire ruts where commuters said, hey my car is basically a sleigh right? The truck is plugged into the block heater because it’s single digits now even tho the sun is steadily rising over bright white snow and the forecast is for the low 30s. This morning I’ve listened to a @loveandradio and two @maintenancephase podcasts, packed up a gym bag for later, eaten a big and tasty breakfast, and parked myself in front of the table easel to paint for two hours. It’s not the “perfect” setup (looking at you, Mobile Art Studio) but it is workable and a good reminder that I can’t wait for perfection to start. Difficult and challenging though it is, painting always requires me to find flow and trust in myself. I have to hold that feeling, breathing and exhaling it, as l motivate myself not to overanalyze, not to dawdle, but to PAINT. Sky like this is especially demanding, with its contradictory and shocking (actually shocking) color contrasts. But if I play it too safe, blurring too many edges or mixing tame colors, it comes out looking like mud. I have to be bold and keep it moving. A year ago, I was wrapping up this commission. How big was it?! It felt giant - probably 3.5 feet tall. I spent hours enjoying the gradations of color in the water and the subtle, but defined and patterned, ripples that form a cohesive whole. It was as serene to paint as it was to step back and see come together.
