There is a fleeting feeling of relief and gratitude when, even despite poor sleep, a morning after camping dawns with an amazing sunrise. It makes it worth it. And this painting aims to extend and grow that feeling: inspired by plein air artists working quickly to capture a moment, I was generous with color and shadow as I worked, aiming more for the warm, inspiring, quick feeling of a surprise sunrise vs perfect realism.
