Canyon Steps

The most surprising thing to me about the Grand Canyon is how, beyond its sheer scale and how incredible it is to try to comprehend, the details are equally striking. The sandstone changes as you descend. The plant life does, too; and of course, infamously, the temps tick up as you drop. Hiking back up toward the north rim, I was struck by a view of high walled looking red sandstone, with fiercely illuminated greenery framing the steps up. That moment and feeling of awe is what I hope this painting conveys.
